The Delaware & Ulster Railroad is conveniently located on Route 28, the major thoroughfare running through the Great Western Catskills. The trains depart the Arkville depot which is close to a number of great places to stay, eat, drink, shop and visit. As we rely on our great neighbors to promote our train rides, we ask that you consider visiting our fantastic friends and neighbors in the area. Catskill Recreation Center

The Catskill Recreation Center (CRC) is a not-for-profit organization with a state-of-the-art swimming pool and exercise facility located in Arkville, NY (on County Highway 38 between State Routes 28 and 30). CRC provides affordable recreational opportunities to the community and is the “go-to place” for fitness, friendships, and fun. We offer a diverse array of swimming and fitness classes, family and youth programs, personal training, and American Red Cross instruction.

Catskill Scenic Byway

Delaware & Ulster Railroad is located along the Catskill Scenic Byway which connects the hamlets of Phoenicia and Pine Hill, the villages of Fleischmanns and Margaretville, and the towns of Olive, Shandaken, Middletown, and Andes all within Ulster and Delaware Counties.

Historical Society of Middletown

The Historical Society of the Town of Middletown is a non-profit membership organization chartered by the New York State Education Department in 2005. For the first several years, we held programs at various locations throughout the town, and in January of 2012 took ownership of a building and seven acres on Cemetery Road, Margaretville, given to us by the New Kingston Valley Grange. Exhibits, programs and special functions are now held there.

John Burroughs Woodchuck Lodge

Visit Woodchuck Lodge, summer retreat of the famed naturalist John Burroughs, and then stop by Boyhood Rock where there is an exhibit on the life and works of John Burroughs as well as hiking trails and a picnic area. The Lodge is open for guided tours the first weekend of each month from May through October, Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 to 3.

Margaretville Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop

The Margaretville Auxiliary Thrift Shop sells a wide variety of gently used, unique and frequently changing, donated items: clothing, shoes, household items, textiles, games, cds, dvds, books, toys, bags, jewelry, small furniture, sporting equipment, and assorted odds and ends. Roxbury Library Association (RLA) Thrift Shoppe

Open during regular library hours, the RLA Thrift Shoppe at the back of the library has men’s, women’s and children’s clothes, household items, fabrics, kids’ toys and a free magazine bin. RLA currently offers a $3/bag sale (plastic grocery store bag), a $5/bag sale (large paper shopping bag), and a $2/book bag sale. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am-5pm, Saturdays 10am-2pm

Second Chance

Located on Route 28 between Arkville and Fleischmanns, Second Chance is full of antiques, collectibles and recycled items. Open year-round on Saturdays and Sundays 10am to 4pm. Call for summer hours.


The beer garden offers all-day casual outdoor dining from Memorial Day through Labor Day, located at the Shephard Hills Golf Course. The menu features casual tapas-style bites and burgers in the beautiful waterside setting of the historic golf course.

Skene Memorial Library

Browse our collection of regional and state history books, review local development issues in the periodicals section, bone up on your favorite hobby—be it gardening, woodwork, quilting—or just kick back and enjoy a good novel or biography. During summer, the Fleischmanns Museum of Memories, located in an adjacent carriage barn, serves to acquaint tourists with the town’s historic role as a resort colony. The museum also contains records useful to genealogy research.


A historic lodge from the Gilded Age, Spillian is a unique 19th century mansion. A camp for grownups that is embraced by the Catskill Forest with meeting and movement space, programming and glorious grounds. Spillian also hosts weddings and special events on its 30+ acres of forest and meadows.

The Catskill Center’s Erpf Gallery

The Catskill Center's Erpf Gallery forms the centerpiece of a historic building in the hamlet of Arkville in the western Catskills. The gallery hosts shows through out the year featuring Catskill artists. It also runs an artist in residence program in the summer.

The Commons Gallery

A gallery for artists, the Commons Gallery features monthly exhibitions of local artists working in a variety of mediums. This intimate and comfortable space is an relaxing spot to view and talk about art. The artists whose work is on exhibition are frequently present during gallery hours. Hours vary with each exhibition. Friday, Saturday and Sundays, noon to 4:00, by chance and by appointment.

The Round Barn

From mid-May through mid-October area farmers and artisans gather to share their creativity and bounty at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market. Located at the historic Round Barn on Route 30 Halcottsville (approximately 5 miles north of Arkville/Margaretville) the market runs Saturdays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
